artist and maker

about
I'm a self taught artist and doll maker, raised in the West of Scotland but now based in the town of Linlithgow, West Lothian. I work primarily in oils and always from the figure.

My work explores what it is to be human, in particular loss, vulnerability and the beauty and fragility of life.

dolls
My dolls are an expression of my need to make human forms from whatever materials I have, something I have done since childhood. I have come to understand that they too are a way of exploring the same themes, albeit a more playful, less cerebral way and I have stopped thinking of them as a quirky distraction from painting but as an art form in their own right.
tutoring
I have been making art with children for many years, running workshops, classes and site specific art projects, both in school and in the community and I greatly enjoy helping children to develop their skills and confidence as young artists. Children are natural artists and it is a privilege to help them bring their creative ideas to life.
I am a member of the PVG scheme.
If you are a school or organisation and are interested in working together, please get in touch.
